It is a well-known fact that carrying around excess weight whenever you are diabetic can complicate the condition. As a matter of fact, some people with certain types of diabetes are able to totally keep away from medication, simply by losing some weight and taking care of themselves. An entire industry has grown up around the weight loss sector of our society and some are specifically engineered to help those that have diabetes. Although these diets may differ in some ways or another, they all contain basically the same type of information.

The fact of the matter is the American Diabetes Association has said that there really is no such thing that you can actually call a diabetic diet. There are some ways that you can eat, however, which can make your diet specifically designed for your particular condition. At the basis of this diet would be the fact that you need to eat 50% carbohydrates, 30% fats and 20% proteins. If you stick within this balance, you’re well on your way to a healthier lifestyle and less problems with your condition.

Of course, that is not the only thing that you really need to pay attention to when it comes to the diabetic diet. You also need to make sure that you are eating foods which are low on the glycemic index. Foods that are high on the index dump a large amount of sugar into our bloodstream rather quickly. This can cause a lot of problems, not only for those of us that have a problem producing insulin but also for those that can produce insulin. Stick low on the index and you will find that you not only lose weight naturally, you feel better as a result.
