The Glycemic Index and Diabetes
It doesn’t matter if you have been diagnosed with diabetes or if you’re prediabetic, having the proper diet is one of the
most important ways of taking care of your health. As a matter of fact, you don’t have to have an issue with your blood sugar at all in order for this particular way of eating to help you in one way or another. What I’m talking about is the glycemic index and being on a low
GI diet in order to regulate your blood sugar.
The glycemic index is simply a way of letting you know how quickly the sugars from a carbohydrate will be absorbed into your system. The higher that a food resides on the scale, the higher the impact will be on your blood sugar. Any foods that are over 50 on the glycemic index are considered to be high glycemic
. If you stay below 50, the sugars in the foods will be absorbed into your system much slower and this will keep your pancreas from producing additional insulin in order to handle the inundation of sugar. Eating this way will balance out your blood sugar and help you to feel better throughout the day.
