the only class of drugs that will reduce insulin resistance is the TZD class, which consists of avandia and actos. actos is the safe one - the fda agrees and the ada says that actos may have protective effects on the heart.

I have the same problem. I was told by my doctor that resistance means that my body does not absorb the insulin like it is suppose to. We are considering going on an insulin pump. This will give me a better control of my glucose level. Like the both of you have mentioned, I also am on Novolin R 4 shots a day and Lantus SoloStar,Metformin 1000mg twice a day, gluctrol 5mg per day, and januvia 100mg per day. I understand how you both feel. I will post again in late October, 2008 and let you know how the pump is working. From what I have researched about the pump, the up front cost besides what my insurance pays is a lot however, in the long run it will cost me less. Take Care, Kay

If a person is a type 2 diabetic (with insulin resistance), why does a doctor want to give them insulin as the diabetes progresses past oral meds? In other words, isn't a doctor prescribing the very thing that a person is resistant to???
